Marvel Comics Items, Weapons and Artifacts

This list is being updated and is still under some construction.

Agamotto - See the entries on the Eye of Agamotto, Book of the Vishanti and Orb of Agamotto below.

The Book of Sins - See the Darkhold entry below.

The Book of the Vishanti - The good counterpart to the Darkhold. Since ancient times, there have been three powerful immortal sorcerers named Agamotto, Hoggoth and Oshtur. This trio is called the Vishanti and they lend their powers to those who invoke their names, such as Earth's sorcerer supreme (it's said that Agamotto was the first sorcerer supreme). The Book of Vishanti is a collection of their notes and spells and is one of the most powerful spell books on Earth. Traditionally, it is handed down from one sorcerer supreme to another. Even though it was written thousands of years ago, it has been updated by magic (and presumably by each sorcerer supreme) to contain information on more recent events. Although the book contains many beneficial and good spells, its use by someone who doesn't understand how to use its power can lead to destructive events and dark magic spells being unleashed (such as when a young Dr. Strange accidentally turned his brother in a vampire).

Casket of Ancient Winters - An Asgardian relic of intense power (see the Asgard entry in Fictional Places, Planets and Dimensions). Originally used by the dark elf Malekith the Accursed, the Casket, when opened, will unleash the intense winter blizzards of Niflheim, one of the Nine Worlds of Asgard (basically the equivalent of another ice age, if left unchecked).

Cloak of Levitation - Often used by Earth's sorcerer supreme, the cloak allows one to fly and hover. It can also move according to the wearer's thoughts, ensnaring an enemy in its folds or acting as an extra set of hands. If the user has a strong connection to the cloak, it can fly to him when he mentally summons it.

Cosmic Containment Units - A device like a cosmic cube, except without the box-like shape (see Cosmic Cube below).

Cosmic Cube - An object constructed to allow the wielder to bend reality to his will. The cube is essentially a box-shaped Cosmic%20Cube.JPGforce field that creates a dimensional rift inside its confines. Energies are drawn from this dimension and create the matrix of the cube. Although the cube responds to the thoughts of the wielder, it cannot read or alter the thoughts of other people. It can only affect physical reality. It has also been theorized that the cosmic cubes are cursed devices and that anyone who possesses one for too long will wind up becoming so obsessive that they are more prone to mistakes and bad judgment and will wind up helping in their own defeat.(Also see Cosmic Containment Units above).

Crimson Bands of Cyttorak - Magical bindings which can be summoned by a sorcerer, able to ensnare enemies of great strength. Cyttorak was a demonic being who lived in Earth's ancient past. See also the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak below.

Crimson Gem of Cyttorak - Also called the Ruby of Cyttorak. A gem created by the ancient demonic entity Cyttorak. Possession of the gem allows a human being to access Cyttorak's demonic energies and become "a human juggernaut" gifted with seemingly limitless strength and invulnerably to physical attacks. The user's body becomes massive and muscled and adorned in mystical armor that protects them from energy and mental attacks. The armor can be physically removed however with sufficient physical force. A person using the gem properly can also fire energy blasts from it and use it to increase the power of other objects (such as allowing a household computer the ability to access any database on Earth).

Darkhold - The evil counterpart to the Book of the VIshanti. Also called "The Book of Sins" and the "Shiatra Book of the Damned." A grimoire of black magic, the Darkhold was originally written on iron scrolls by the demonic Elder God named Cthon. The witch Morgaine Le Fey transcribed the Darkhold into book form, translating it into Latin and adding her own touches. Around that time, pages were taken and scattered around the world. The Darkhold is responsible for the creation of the vampire race and werewolves in Marvel Comics. If a page of the Darkhold is invoked, a "Darkhold Dwarf" may appear, a physical manifestation of Cthon's spirit who attempts to corrupt and manipulate the spell-caster. Worshippers of Cthon are called Darkholders.

Evil Eye of Avalon - A mystical object that is capable of destroying/rearranging matter, manipulating energy to create blasts or force fields, and transporting the wielder across space and time. The Evil Eye was seemingly destroyed by the super-hero Black Knight, but it later showed up again in the JLA/Avengers cross-over. It's possible the Eye is able to repair itself. The Evil Eye's major weakness is that using it drains it of power and so it must make sure to recharge itself from time to time, even if it must take that energy from a living being.

Agamotto%20Eye.JPGEye of Agamotto - One of the most powerful magical entities alive, it's said that the immortal Agamotto was Earth's first sorcerer supreme, before a human being was able to wield the title. The Eye of Agamotto is housed within an amulet. When summoned, the Eye leaves its resting place and attaches to the brow of the wielder, allowing him to see past illusions, into the past, into someone's mind. The Eye can place a target into a coma, weaken magical beings, create mystical shields and open doorways into other dimensions. Traditionally, the Eye is held by Earth's sorcerer supreme. See also Orb of Agamotto below.

Eye of Avalon - see Evil Eye of Avalon entry above.

Infinity%20Gauntlet.JPGThe Infinity Gauntlet - A glove that originally belonged to the villain Thanos. He altered the glove so that the six Infinity Gems could be attached to it (see below), allowing him to easily use them all in conjunction. With the gems, the Infinity Gauntlet gives the wearer so much power that he's basically one level below God. Only the cosmic being known as the Living Tribunal (who claims to be empowered by the creator of the universe, the "One Above All") is capable of shutting off the power of the Gaunlet adn the Infinity Gems. It's said that the gems are programmed not to be used in unison anymore, so it's possible the Gauntlet can never be used again.

Infinity Gems - Six gems that give one mastery over the six different aspects of the universe. The villain Thanos has claimed that the gems are forged from the remains of a nearly omnipotent being who killed himself millions of years ago. There is the time gem, the soul gem, the power gem, the reality gem, the space gem and the mind gem. Just possessing the gem gives you basic powers, whereas mastery leads to god-like abilities. A novice with the time gem can time travel, whereas a master may exist in all time periods simultaneously without causing paradoxes. The mind gem's easiest use is to read and project thoughts, whereas mastery allows access to the thoughts of any and all living beings (it's been said that the mind gem is actually a physical manifestation of the collective unconsciousness). The power gem allows one to manipulate energies and have any ability they desire. The space gem can allow a simple-minded person to be able to teleport across interstellar differences, whereas a more powerfully-minded person can warp space around them, teleport anywhere (and even to different places simultaneously), and summon any person or object into their presence. The reality gem allows one's desires to become real, scientific laws be damned. The soul gem allows the wielder to alter and control souls of the living and the dead. The soul gem has at times seemed vampiric in nature, wishing to ensnare more souls into its "Soul World" (see Fictional Places, Planets and Dimensions). When all gems are brought together, it practically makes you God. The gems have been brought together several times with the Infinity Gauntlet (see entry above), but it's said they're now programmed not to be able to work in unison anymore. It's also been shown that they have no powers if taken into other universes.

Infinity Orb - A scrying orb used by the hero Adam Warlock. It allows one to access a limbo-like dimension where cosmic beings like Eternity can be found and presumably can contact others across great distances and other dimensions.

Orb of Agamotto - One of the most powerful magical entities alive, it's said that the immortal Agamotto was Earth's first sorcerer supreme, before a human being was able to wield the title. The Orb of Agamotto is a large crystal scrying orb. It can see images of the future and can be used to track and detect the use of magic on Earth. It has also been seen to access other dimensions. When used, the Orb levitates off its stand. Powerful forces can block the effects of the Orb and remain hidden.

Quantum Bands - Originally discovered in a Kree weapons depot, the Quantum Bands are two metal wrist bands with gems that can access and manipulate energies all across the electromagnetic spectrum, as well as tapping into a quantum energy field nicknamed the "Quantum Zone." They are used by the hero Quasar. The bands can absorb and redirect energyQuantum%20Bands.JPG attacks against the wielder, though it cannot absorb mystical or mental energies or the Darkforce. The bands can create force-fields and basic solidified shapes such as walls, pincers and battering rams. They manipulate gravitons, allowing flight, and can allow for teleportation portals (though the gravity effect of these portals cause great damage to the area if the wearer doesn't surround himself with a force field to contain the energy). The bands can also act as databanks and can be programmed for certain effects (for instance, Quasar programmed them to protect him from mind-control attacks).

The Serpent Crown - A crown designed to look like different serpents intertwined. Designed to access the power of the god Set, the crown confers the wearer with superhuman strength, telepathic abilities, illusion casting, telekinesis and some ability to manipulate matter and energy (such as firing energy blasts).

Ultimate%20Nullifier.JPGThe Ultimate Nullifier - A hand-held device with a single trigger switch that is capable of completely disintegrating anything and anyone that the user imagines within moments. It is possible to destroy a planet or even a galaxy with this weapon. The problem with the Ultimate Nullifier is that if the user does not have the necessary level of willpower or if his concentration wavers at all while he's using it, he will be completely destroyed along with the target and only the weapon will remain. The Nullifier destroys the matter that makes up whatever it targets, never leaving debris or wreckage or any evidence that the thing had ever existed in the first place. In the hands of a cosmic being such as the world-devourer Galactus, whose intellect and senses aren't bound by human limitations, the Nullifier can actually destroy a universe or a timeline. It's said that the Nullifier is actually an aspect of Galactus himself, which is why he usually keeps it on his ship.

Wand of Watoomb - An ancient wand with two demonic faces carved on both ends. The Wand of Watoomb is a very oldWatoomb.JPG and very powerful object. It has healing abilities, can create defensive barriers against physical and magical attacks, open portals into other dimensions, and it can allow the user spy on someone they know who is a far distance away. Watoomb was said to be one of Earth's greatest sorcerers in ancient times but the wand seems to be all that remains of his magical totems.
