Do You Know Who I Am ?
Alan P. Kistler (known to authorities in Oxford, England as "The Sizzler") has been recognized by Warner Bros. Pictures as a "comic book historian." He is a paid writer/reviewer for ComicMix.com, a great entertainment/news site with new original works by folks such as Mike Grell and Mike W. Barr and interesting articles by people such as Denny O'Neil, John Ostrander, Glenn Hauman and Mike Gold. His articles at ComicMix.com can be found right here.
On the web, Alan Kistler has made frequent contributions to MonitorDuty.com and has done reviews and video editing for PopCultureShock.com. In print, he has been interviewed by the New York Daily News for his opinion on reviving certain dead heroes and has contributed to the magazine Comic Book Foundry. He has served as an associate editor on Space and Time Magazine and is mentioned in the book Webslinger (published by Bantam Books) in connection to Michael A. Burstein's essay (and an interesting essay it is).
Alan Kistler can be seen discussing the mythological qualities of Aquaman in the documentary "Aquaman: The Sovereign of the Seas", located in the special features of the Adventures of Aquaman cartoon series DVD. He can also be seen in the documentary "Super Heroes United", located in the special features of the animated direct-to-DVD movie JUSTICE LEAGUE: The New Frontier. Alan Kistler was one of many featured on the FUSE TV mini-series "Ten Great Reasons", which aired Tuesday nights at 10 pm every week from February 19th until April 4th.
On the side, Alan works as a freelance video editor and occasionally acts in independent film projects. He has studied film history, journalism, editing, acting, and improv comedy at the Oxford Media School in England and at Fordham University at Lincoln Center in New York City. He has also done freelance video editing for the promotions department of ABC News in Rosslyn, VA. He can be seen acting in "Street Justice", a short movie by One Glass Productions which has been highly acclaimed at the 48-Hour Film Project as among the top ten submitted films in New York.
Alan can often be encountered at Midtown Comics - Grand Central in New York where he usually argues with certain staff members over silly matters of comic continuity, sci-fi/fantasy trivia and film/TV history. He also enjoys the occasional pint and meal at Lincoln Park Bar and Grill on 56th and 9th in Manhattan and for some reason is frequently asked if he owns the place (maybe because he looks like a man who never leaves a bar).
In his spare time, usually during ungodly hours of the night, Alan frequently writes original stories and screenplays that star either his own characters or previously existing ones depending on his mood. He hopes one day to publish a few of these stories and to do some work for DC and Marvel Comics. He also wishes to time travel and doesn't believe that this is a foolish idea.
Alan was born in DC, is an honorary citizen of Texas, has roots in Ireland and Peru, and lives in New York City.
