Who Is Alan Kistler?

Alan P. Kistler (known to authorities in Oxford, England as "The Sizzler") has been recognized by major media outlets as a "comic book historian." Along with being a working actor in New York (a member of the Queens Players), he hosts the weekly radio show "Fortress of Awesome" (www.getthepointradio.com) and produces/hosts his the online series "Crazy Sexy Geeks," hosted on ComicMix.com

In print, Alan works as a freelance writer for sites such as ComicMix.com and MTV.com. He also works as an associate editor on Space and Time Magazine

Recently, Alan Kistler co-wrote and appeared in "The Back Room", a short film made for the annual 48 Hour Film Project which also won the NYC Audience Award.

Kistler has transcended the physical world and entered the fictional world as well. He did this by appearing as "Agent Alan Kistler", a character in the Star Trek: Destiny trilogy by David Mack and in the novel Star Trek: A Singular Destiny by Keith R. A. DeCandido, which immediately follows the events of Star Trek: Destiny. You should get these books because they are all excellent and their writers are quite good at what they do.

Alan Kistler has made frequent contributions to MonitorDuty.com and has done reviews and video editing for PopCultureShock.com. He has been interviewed by the New York Daily News for his opinion on reviving certain dead heroes and is mentioned in the book Webslinger (published by Bantam Books) in connection to Michael A. Burstein's essay on Spider-Man. He, along with a few friends, also spoke to NPR's Radio 360 about the relevance of the Watchmen as both a movie and a comic.

Alan Kistler can be seen in the documentary "Aquaman: The Sovereign of the Seas", featured on the Adventures of Aquaman DVD. He can also be seen in the documentary "Super Heroes United", which appears on the DVD movie JUSTICE LEAGUE: The New Frontier. On the Plastic Man cartoon collection DVD, he discusses the history of the character in the documentary "Plas-tastic!"

Alan Kistler was one of many featured on the FUSE TV series "Ten Great Reasons", which aired from Feb. 19th until April 4th of 2008.

Alan has studied film history, journalism, editing, acting, and improv comedy at the Oxford Media School in England and at Fordham University at Lincoln Center in New York City. He has also done freelance video editing for the promotions department of ABC News in Rosslyn, VA.

In his spare time, usually during ungodly hours of the night, Alan writes original stories and screenplays that star either his own characters or previously existing ones (depending on his mood). He hopes one day to publish a few of these stories and to do some work for DC Comics, Marvel Comics and Doctor Who. He also wishes to time travel and doesn't believe that this is a foolish idea.

Alan was born in Washington D.C., has roots in Ireland and Peru, and lives in New York City. If you meet him, come up and say hello. If you are one of those who sends him hate-mail, you are mistaken, that isn't him you're looking at, so kindly continue on your way.

Alan is usually located in New York City. He can often be encountered at Roger's Time Machine on 14th and 7th or at Midtown Comics - Grand Central where he usually argues with certain staff members over silly matters of sci-fi/fantasy trivia and film/TV history. He also enjoys the occasional pint (or three) and meal at Lincoln Park Bar and Grill on 56th and 9th and for some reason is frequently asked if he is one of the owners (perhaps because he looks like a man who never leaves a bar).
